Teaser Tuesday: Change, First Book of the Kitsune Series~Melissa Stevens

Teaser Tuesdays is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:

• Grab your current read
• Open to a random page
• Share two (2) “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
• BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
• Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

Change (Kitsune book 1)

Location:  3980

Author: Melissa Stevens

“So you’re good friends with the Anikitos, Alekto, and Harmonia?”  Bitterness leaked into his voice. “Is that why you never have time for me, or is it because of that human you’ve been spending time with?”

I read this book quite a while ago, but I did enjoy it and have read the other two books in the series as well.  If you purchased this book more than a year ago, she has since re-edited the book and released a new, revised version so you should be able to get the updated one.  She has also released all three in paperback, though I only have them as ereaders.  This book sets the stage on the Kitsune, a shifter community that comprises many locations all across the globe and many types of animals that these shifters change into.  Before people start leaving negative comments about these Kitsune not being foxes, no, they are not.   Some shifters are foxes, but not in this first series, she hopes to get to foxes at some point, but this particular pack are Wolves.  Yes, the author knows what Kitsune means, no she has no plans on changing it.

This is the first full-length effort of this author and I think the story itself is a pretty good one and gets better with each installment, but you need to start here, or you will find yourself a little confused.

The description from Amazon:  A sudden life threatening injury turns Nickie’s world on its ear, but not in a way she ever would have predicted. Nickie finds out that not only do shape-shifters exist, but she is one. The Kitsune are a race of shape-shifters that have been living in secret alongside humans for centuries. As Nickie struggles to master her newly discovered shape-shifting and the abilities it brings her, she learns that some of the people in her life are far more than she knew. Can Nickie handle all the changes headed her way on her own? Or does she have someone who can help her?

I hope you enjoy the teaser, and the book.

Feel free to comment on mine, or leave a teaser of your own.

Tsk. Those mere humans have a remarkable habit of getting in the way.
